Catch-Up Post

I have to start by saying, I knew I needed to post and that it had been awhile since I have really done a good post but I thought that it hadn't really been too long.  As I was loading all of the pictures into my computer over the past little bit and it showed me the dates of the pictures, I realized that it had been quite some time since I had done a full blog post.  For the purposes of not making this too long, I am going to do a "digest" version with some quick notes about the events over the last few weeks.  I will put all pictures from the last few weeks.

  • We had a fun P.E. activity back around Valentine's Day where the students learned about Heart Health.  To end that activity we did a round of Hokey Pokey (reluctantly by some) and learned how to take our own standing pulse and active pulse.  Check out the fun video!

  • We had a great time at our Valentine's Day Party!  Thank you to all those who sent goodies and treats for our class party.  We had a ton of food and the class had a great time spending time together and distributing their cards.

  • We tried a new math program online -- just for some variety.  It is called Splashmath and it was an automatic hit with the entire class right away!

  • We have had a few assemblies during the month of February.  One of the favorite assemblies so far was the Bucketfilling Assembly where students learned the importance of making someone else's day a little bit better through kindness.  Some of the teachers even were asked to wear funny hats and help sing a song with the whole school.  Just this last Friday we also had an assembly on the Magic of Math.  Thank you PTO for giving us these wonderful assemblies!

  • For Class Dojo Store we have had two times where students spent their Dojo points on having lunch with me.  Look at the first group that spent 65 points each to have lunch with me in the classroom.  The second group wasn't quite as big, but with both groups we had a lot of fun!

  • We finished all of our Digital Citizenship Lessons for the year!  It is quite an accomplishment and the class was very excited.  We will be doing more with Digital Citizenship during the rest of the year, but will be more of student projects... more on that later!  In our last Digital Citizenship lesson the students had to "create" their own website as if they were selling something.  We talked about tricks that websites use to sell their products.  The group "sites" turned out great and we had a lot of teamwork happening in the classroom.  The last three pictures are the crayola and Webkins site that we used as a comparison to look at how product sites look and the last picture shows what each group needed to include on their group poster site.

  • Our class had a great walking field trip with Mrs. Sonneville's class to the Kelseyville Post Office, Kelseyville Park, and Kelseyville High School.  Each student wrote a letter to another classmate and was able to send it in the mail.  Those should be arriving Monday or Tuesday if they haven't already.  We talked about how to write a friendly letter and address an envelope.  Each student was able to meet their mail carrier and see where their mail is sorted.  The class had a great time playing for about a half hour at Kelseyville Park and then we headed over to Kelseyville High School where the students were able to tour the kitchen and make part of their own lunch.  The best part was definitely the GIANT freezer.  The class made their own fruit salad and then ate lunch in the big cafeteria.

        • Monday 2/29/16 - Crazy Hat Day
        • Tuesday 3/1/16 - Red and White Day
        • Wednesday 3/2/16 - Wild/Wacky Sock Day
        • Thursday 3/3/16 - Grinchiest Green Day
        • Friday 3/4/16 - What you want to be when you grow up .. Oh the Places you'll go!
      • Along with the Spirit Week we will be having Family Reading night on Thursday, March 3rd at 6pm with performances by classrooms and the band and free cake for the big birthday celebration.  Our Scholastic Book Fair is also going on during this week.  It will be open Thursday night and will also be open to students during lunch recess and after school.

We had such a great month of February with many fun events.  Here is to looking forward to the month of March!
