We started the morning off with a fun Johnny Appleseed play.
After the play we read about Dr. Seuss and his style of characters in our Let's Find Out Scholastic Magazine. Make sure to ask your child about our fun edition of our magazine.
We enjoyed a classic Dr. Seuss story after recess, "Green Eggs and Ham." Of course, we can't just read about it... we ate green eggs and ham, too. We had some yummy hot chocolate to go along with that and this was perfect for such a cold day! Most of the kids really enjoyed eating green eggs and ham....although we had a couple who were not fans of it!
Before we ate our green eggs and ham, we made some drawings about what they looked like and predictions about whether or not we would like eating them.
In one color, they made their prediction with the faces and in another color they showed their actual feelings about green eggs and ham.
After lunch, we read a lesser known book by Dr. Seuss, "Bartholomew and the Oobleck." Well, we couldn't just read about Oobleck. We made some of our own and everyone got to help add water or cornstarch and we also had many helpers mix our oobleck. We did a write-up on this too, where the students drew a picture of what it would look like and another picture of what it actually looked like. Then they had to write how the oobleck felt and how they felt about the oobleck. Guess what our sensory fun will be next week during our Jobs and Choices!?!?!
As you can see, we had Oobleck everywhere... just like in the story.
The class also did some drawings of the Cat in the Hat with a Directed Drawing. These all turned out so well and it was very fun to see the many personalities of the students coming out in their drawings. Here is one of the Cat in the Hat drawings.
We finished off our day by doing some free-reading and enjoying Dr. Seuss books on the rug.
